  1. Hei! I'm restoring the convertible bit by bit, and now I had a look at the A/C, which doesn't do anything... no wonder! There's a big crack in the hose from the compressor to the firewall. Well at least I won't have to bring in the car to take out the gas.. it left long ago. The cracked hose is the big one which goes from the bottom of engine on passenger side (where the AC compressor is attached) to the firewall on the same side. It's covered in white/silver insulator. I added a couple picture which show it and the crack. A new part is quite expensive, so I wonder if someone has a used one to sell from a "delerbil", in reasonable good standing. Live in Oslo. Takk!
  2. Thanks guys, sounds good, Biltema it is
  3. Need a torque wrench for working on my 328i engine, which must go down to a low enough range (for example the nuts of the valve covergasket need 89 inches-pound/10Nm).With a small kid, I don't have too much time to play around with the car, so it's gonna be only for the occasional easy job, so don't need the super pro heavy duty tool which costs a fortune.. Saw this in Biltema http://www.biltema.no/no/Verktoy/Handverktoy/Pipe--og-Nokkelverktoy/Momentnokler/Momentnokkel-2000020911/ - has anyone experience with it? It's 4-20Nm so would work. Or any other suggestion? Takk!
  5. Hi! Last year late summer I bought an 1996 E36 328i Cabrio, which has slept in the garage in Oslo during winter. Now I took it out and it's time to make it shine. Some of you already helped with finding a battery - thanks for that! The car is in great state and runs well and I'm already enjoying the sunshine when it's there, but of course with an old car there's a number of small things that can be improved. The plan is to tackle them one by one. The first in line (besides a good cleanup and polish) is that the body squeaks over bumps etc. Many seem to think that all Cabrios squak a bit and that's it, but after researching I found that cleaning the rubber seals and using a restoration product may actually fix the issue. In the US/UK there's a thing called "Gummi Pflege Rubber Care" (see https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gummi-Pflege-Rubber-Stick-100ml/dp/B007TNOQDI) which does the trick, but cannot find it in Oslo. Is there an equivalent product that can be found easily here in Norway? Since it's a treatment that needs to be done every now and them, it'd be good to have a local product rather than have it shipped from abroad every time. Second (probably a recurrent question, but haven't found any clear answer): the car need some minor body fixes (a minor amount of rust in a couple spots and a small, almost invisible bulk on one side, which has not damaged the paint); and the canopy glass is quite scratched so I'd like to change it. I need find a good body shop which doesn't kill the wallet (if they exist :)) . Any good recommendations? Same for the mechanical work - I'd like to have the engine checked, especially the VANOS, which goes beyond my DIY skills Any good verksted whose mechanics are skilled with 90's BMWs? Finally, any good place for spares in Oslo? For example the front lights have become quite faded (not the lamps, but the transparent plastic) so I'd like to change them (which shouldn't be hard to do by myself). Tusen takk!
  6. Oh, I hadnt managed to find the part at GS. Thanks a lot, much appreciated. I like this forum already
  7. Takk! I'll check Sønnak out!
  8. Thanks Eivind. I am not so sure, as the manual doesn't say - it just states that only certain batteries can be used. From what I get,the reasons are two: one is the design, which transmits vibrations to the battery tray on purpose,so that the battery has to be vibration-resistant; the other is that the battery compartment is also smaller than for standard E36, so a regular one simply won't fit. The size should be DIN77 IIRC from what I gather from the Internet - apparently quite an unusual one. Worst case I'll go a BMW dealer and buy it there - any recommended? I kinda remember seeing one in Hasle for example.
  9. Heisann! I l kept my 1996 328i Cabrio (E36) in the garage during winter, but forgot to detach the battery, which is now dead. Since I guess it went off charge weeks ago, I think I'd better get a new one. Mounting should be easy, but I wonder if there's any place in Oslo or surrounding that sells them, or which battery works with that model. Since it's a 328i Cabrio, it has to be vibration resistant - a normal battery would break pretty quick! Tusent takk for any response!
