Power Trip

I have a 1997 328i Coupe and understand that you can increase the power by replacing the throttle body with a larger one. Is this true, and if so, what bits do I need?

What you need is the complete inlet manifold and throttle body from an E36 325i or an E34 525i. When the E36 first arrived there were thw six cylinder engines: a 150 bhp 320i and a 192 bhp 325i. As before withe the E30, the 325 had bigger inlet ports and a correspondingly fatter inlet manifold. In 1995 the 325i was replaced by two models, the 323i and the 328i. The 323i was in fact the old 325 engine, but fitted with the skinny 320i inlet manifold to strangle the power down to 170 bhp. The 328 was also fitted with the 320i inlet manifold to get power down to the same 192 bhp as the 325i - this was done for insurance ratings, but because the 328i has excellent torque they do go better than the 325i.

To give 323 the missing 22 bhp, you need to fit the 325i inlet manifold and throttle body, plus an ECU remap. Your 328i will also gain about 20 bhp and with a good ECU remap, will be doing about 215-220 bhp.

Mao kommer det nok til å koste noen kroner, men samtidig vil du ha en 323i som går bedre enn den du kjøpte.
