Synd att gammer`n koliderte med Z4`en i helgas VLN, men han kommer vel sterkt tilbake.
"I was very fortunate"
30th April 2007
Following his severe accident during the third round of the VLN on the Nürburgring, Hans-Joachim Stuck is on his way to recovery.
Hans was flown to the military hospital in Koblenz immediately after his collision with a car standing next to the track during the 49 th ADAC ACAS H&R-Cup. There, the doctors diagnosed a fracture of the second lumbar vertebra, several severe bruises, as well as a contusion of the heart. "There is, however, no more danger of developing a blood clot. I really was very fortunate,“ Hans said following the examination.
According to Hans, the HANS system, which is also used in Formula One racing, played an important part in preventing even more severe injuries. "Without this head and neck protection system, I probably wouldn't have survived this accident,“ the 56-year-old says. "I will dedicate myself to protecting all drivers in the long distance championship with this safety system in the future.“
During the heaviest accident of his career as a racing driver, Hans first collided with French Porsche driver Romain Dumas on the third lap and then crashed into the SEAT of Michael Marsani, who had stopped next to the track. Marsani escaped the accident with minor bruises.
"There is a limit to everything, but this accident will definitely not be the end of my racing career," Hans said. "As long as I feel fit I will continue to drive races. Therefore, I am hoping to be able to compete in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring on 9 th June.“
