ADS is an EDIABAS interface that is designed to use a serial port to communicate with the 20-pin diagnosis connector.
The ADS driver in EDIABAS will only work with a serial port configured as COM1, that is, on address 3f8 irq 4. This usually means that usb-serial ports and pcmcia serial ports won't work.
The ADS interface is required to communicate with control modules that require wake up on the L-line. The OBD interface does not provide this.
The ADS interface may be connected to either the 16 pin OBD2 socket or the 20 pin diagnosis socket with an adapter.
The STD:OBD driver in EDIABAS will also drive this hardware, but will not allow use of the L-line.
