1. Recognition of the fitted wheel electronics systems
If you fail at 0% it can’t get past step 1. Your car can’t see the awoken sensors. (The sensors wake by rolling faster than 30 k/hr, and sleep if they’re sitting for >5 mins).
2. Identifying the position of the wheel electronics systems
If you fail at 49% it can’t get past step 2. It uses turning to help identify R vs. L side tires. Failing here means 1 or more sensors can’t transmit their revolution or acceleration data used to figure out which sensor is on which wheel.
3. Plausibility check by checking the nominal pressures against the minimum pressures. This also includes a temp vs. pressure validation.
If you fail at 99% it can’t get past step 3. The temp-pressure check uses tire heating from accel-decel and turning. If it fails here there’s a problem with T vs. P sensor measurements from 1 or more sensors.
4. Adoption of the specified pressures as nominal pressures
Success - 100%. Reset complete.
To finalise the assignment of wheels successfully, the vehicle must be driven for at least 12 minutes at a speed in excess of 30 km/h.
